Sleeping Dormouse, Damian Henry
I am an artist printmaker, I graduated from Glasgow School of Art.
I like my images to be direct, simple, honest and eloquent. Animals are a favourite subject. I think that each and every animal deserves attention and consideration. With this in mind I aim for the essence of my subject, to craft the creatures' images, hoping to enable my audience to connect with them. We have two cats and two dogs and love them dearly.
My animals are usually bold, often linocuts, but my drawings and etchings can be gentle, created with fine lines, like this DORMOUSE. They are small, tiny, cute nocturnal creatures who sleep a lot! I usually hand colour my pictures but here I used blue ink for some, brown ink for others. I love working at Glasgow Print Studio!
I also draw Glasgow landmarks, like Glasgow University, Glasgow Botanics, Oran Mor, or The Toll Booth.
Finnieston Crane, Damian Henry
In recent years I have done many commissions for House Portraits. These are not architectural renderings, rather they are impressionistic, spontaneous and spare. I see each home as the owner’s pride and joy, their familiar surroundings full of good memories. I see my urban landscape work as providing a way to document the reality of our surroundings while conveying other people’s lives and habitats. So if I can create a great picture it is rewarding for me as well. And my pictures usually get a very good reaction from the client!
